In support of the above application, I do solemnly swear that I was born at Kaiserslautern (Rheinpfalz) in Germany on or about the 9th day of October 1863; that I emigrated to the United States, sailing on board the Donau, from Bremen on or about the 2nd day of May, 1879, that I resided 15 3/4 years uninterruptedly in the United States from my arrival to the present time at Karlstatt, N.J; that I was naturalized as a citizen of the United States before an Inferior Court of Common Pleas at New Barbadoes on the 9th day of October 1884, as shown by the accompanying Certificate of Naturalization; that I am the Identical Person described in said Certificate; that I am domiciled in the United States, my permanent residence being at Karlstatt in the State of New Jersey where I follow the occupation of Machinist; that I am about to go abroad temporarily; and that I intend to return to the United States within two years with the purpose of residing and performing the duties of citizenship therein. Oath of Allegiance: Further, I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same, and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion: So Help Me God. The application describes him as 31 1/2 years of age, 5 feet 6 1/2 inches tall with a high forehead, brown eyes, proportionate nose, a moustached mouth, round chin, blonde hair, fair complexion and with an oblong face.7
