Matthias O'Bryan1

Matthias O'Bryan was born circa 1627; He is said to be around 33 years of age in 1660.2,3 He married Elizabeth (?).4 On 12 February 1660 at Charles County, Maryland, Mr. James Langworth demanded a warrant against John Tomkinson for mutinous and seditious words and asked for a subpoena for Mathias Obrian. Mathias, aged about 33 years, stated that John Tomkinson, in the presence of William Allen and James Johnson, said there were 30 of the inhabitants of this province to be hanged including Zacharie Wade, Joseph Harrison, William Heard and several others.2 In September 1662 at Charles County, Maryland, Francis Batchelor demanded a subpoena for Mathias Obrian.2 In 1663 at Charles County, Maryland, he served on a jury.2 On 12 May 1663 at Charles County, Maryland, James Lindsey, planter of Portobacco, assigned his rights in the patent to Mathias Obrian. Mathias Obrion [sic] then assigned the rights to the same in open court to Henry Francom the same day.2 In 1664 at Charles County, Maryland, credit for 100 pounds of tobacco was given to him for one wolf's head.2 In 1665 at Charles County, Maryland, there was a suit filed against Matthias for harboring a runaway servant.3 Matthias O'Bryan married Magdalena (?) after 1670.4 Matthias O'Bryan sold land to Richard Edelen of St. Mary's County on 3 August 1673 at Charles County, Maryland. He sold it for 1,900 pounds of tobacco. It was a tract called Dublin and was laid out for 200 acres.5 He died before 10 August 1703.1

Ellinor O'Bryan was born on 5 November 1666 at Charles County, Maryland.2 She was the daughter of Matthias O'Bryan.2 Ellinor O'Bryan deeded land to It is noted that the indenture was recorded at the request of Dennis Connell. Ellinor is listed as the surviving heir of Matthias Obryan, dec'd. and that Mary Connell was the wife of Dennis Connell. It also lists Mary's children, William, Elizabeth, Mary and Angellica Connell. She was given 2 tracts of land; a parcel called Fernes on the south side of Mattawoman formerly taken up by Matthias Obryan about 2 miles from the head of sd. creek; laid out for 300 acres; also a tract of 200 acres bound by land formerly owned by George How called Howland. The indenture is recorded in Liber Z, page 53. Mary Connell on 10 August 1703 at Charles County, Maryland.3

William Connell was the son of Dennis Connell and Mary O'Bryan.1 William Connell and James and Elizabeth Byrn sold land to Stephen Nowland in April 1714 at Charles County, Maryland. The recording of the indenture was requested by Stephen Nowland, planter. It was for a parcel of land formerly conveyed from Eleanor Obryan, dec'd. to Mary Connell, mother of Williams Connell and Elizabeth Byrn, which was to be divided amongst her children after her death. It was old for 13,000 pounds of tobacco. It is recorded in LiberF#2, Page 31.1
