Thomas Smith was born in 1787 at Georgia.1 He was the son of James Smith and Elizabeth Cowan.1 He was not mentioned in his father's will of 27 March 1817 so it is possible that he may have died prior to the will. There is a Thomas Smith of the right age on the 1820 Clarke County, Georgia census. Clarke County is between Greene and Jackson Counties where his father held land. He could possibly have been given land prior to the will and therefore not named. Further research is needed to determine whether it is the same Thomas.2
