     I bequeath and devise to my wife Matilda Jane during her natural life of widowhood all the north side of the land on which I live including the Spring, the line to be at the Spring then to run with the meandering of the Spring Branch untill it empties into Harrican Creek, then with the creek to the line. She is to have the same with all improvements thereon and the following personal: two feather beads and the bead clothing belonging to the two beds, two bead steads, two dining tables, one dres table and six chairs, one safe. Also two cows and calves. She, my wife, must have a years support out of the presant of the crops for herself, a lane and have the use of the mare and open and wagon for one year then to be sold. My wife also is to have an equal divide of the kitchen furniture.
     I give and devise to my two daughters Dovey Sutton and Jane Harris to them and their heirs all the land south of the Spring and Spring Branch, supposed to be forty acres the south portion of the land on which I now live to have and to hold in fee simple.
     I give and devise to my two daughters Mary Newsom and Elizabeth Woodard them and their heirs all the land south of the Spring and Spring Branch it being the land given to my wife Matilda Jane for her lifetime or widowhood at her death or marriage this land is to go to Mary Newsom and Elizabeth Woodard them and their heirs to have and to hold in fee simple. I give this land to my daughters as I have given to my four sons Bartley Johnson, Levi Johnson, Darvey Johnson and Joseph W. Johnson land heretofore. I want all my personal property sold as soon as convenient except as stated above and after my just debts is paid I want the remainder divided between my four daughters and four sons. My sons Bartley and Joseph each owe me fifty dollars which I want deducted out of their portion of the proceeds of my Personal Property. Bartley is for money he collected for me the land sold in Marshall County in this state. Joseph W. is for money paid on this land before I let him have it. I nominate and appoint W. J. McLirty and James S. Perkins executors of this my Last Will. Also enumerated in the household was Joseph Vinson, farm laborer, age 18, born in Alabama..4 Thomas Alexander Thompson began military service on 28 October 1864 at Talladega County, Alabama, when he enlisted in the Confederate Army with Co. F, Davenport's Battalion which is another name for Barbiere's Cavalry Battalion. This Battalion was organized in 1864 from several independent companies which had originally been created as supporting forces for the Conscript Reserves. The battalion served principally in central Alabama during the fall and winter, 1864-1865, and it was first assigned (1 Nov 64) to Armistead's Cavalry Brigade, District of Central Alabama, until January 1865. The unit was headquartered at Wilsonville, AL (Feb 65) and was reported as serving with the Alabama Reserves with six companies ("A"-"F"). It was assigned to, and included in the surrender of the Department of Alabama, Mississippi and East Louisiana by Lt. Gen'l Richard Taylor at Citronelle, AL, on 4 May 1865.7,3,8 He ended military service on 24 May 1865 at Talladega, Talladega County, Alabama, when he was paroled by Brigadier General M. H. Chrysler, commanding United States Forces at Talladega.7 He married Sarah Jane Oslin, daughter of William S. Oslin and Jane Eliza Nolen, on 8 August 1867 at Coosa County, Alabama; by J. T. Nelson, J.P.9

McGee, Guntown, Mississippi.1
